LKY STEP Award
Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Yeah!!! Yeah!!! I got the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading.. Was so shocked when I open the letter box and saw a SMU letter. When I open the letter, was totally surprised, hehe..

This award is indeed prestigious, to be presented together with other awards like LKY Mathematics and Sci award, Prime minister book prizes etc. It comprises of one-off cash award of $3,500 and waival of school fees by the university if I don't have other scholarships on hand, coolz.

Thank you so much for selecting me..It's not about the money, so thrilled that I won an award/scholarship at national level and it's a recognition of my effort in school..Though already received recognition from TP, this is the highest and most honorable recognition I ever had.. hehe

Healing
Sunday, July 23, 2006

My knee seems to get slightly better. At least it's not so pain standing up even without panadol. One regret, I should have sought medical treatment on the day I fell. Anyway it's too late to regret, just have to wait till tmr.

Was curious about the LKY STEP award yesterday so when to check out the history. Realised that last year only 2 person got the award for the polytechnic going to university category. The interview list seems to have around 20 ppl.. wondering how many awards they are giving this year.. so chances are actually quite slim.. just hope loh

Anyway, right now recuperating at home, yeah, sorta injured my knee yesterday, pain.. It got worse this morning but started to feel better in the evening, hope it will heal by tmr, =]

Went to LKY scholarship interview yesterday, panel of 3 deans from the 3 local unis and representative from MOE. Interview was quite ok, just that they drilled alot of personal questions.. Hope they accepted my response..hehe Right now, just pray hard that they will select me, lol...then maybe i'll have change to shake Minister Mentor's hand. =]

SMU student officially
Wednesday, July 19, 2006

I went SMU to matriculate on Monday. Alot of stations to go to. hehe.

I also bought the new Fujitsu Tablet PC T4210S in school and collected it on the spot. So right now, I'm actually using the new laptop. Hee.Quite cool and easy to use. I was quite hesitant about buying insurance and $50 annually after the AIA girl promoted it. It ended up that I did not buy the insurance. I shall pray that my laptop will not be damaged in the scope not covered by the warranty. Come to think of it, warranty already covered alot of things, just not the LCD screen. So the insurance covers mainly the LCD. Anyway chances of damage is low, at least when it's only for school and personal use.

By the way, I was shortlisted for the Lee Kuan Yew STEP award. haha. Interview is tmr (thurs). Didn't really prepare much as don't even know what sort of questions they will ask. Scope is way too big for any preparation. So I guess I just need to be myself and speak from my heart during the interview hehe. Wish me luck ok.

Tablet PC
Friday, July 07, 2006

OMG.. SMU's offer for Table PC is so attractive.. it's selling Fujitsu Lifebook T4210 at only 2500 ++ So tempted to buy.. The original price is $4288 (think it's being overstated).. the functions are solid and it's only abt 1.9 kg.. though still quite heavy but considered good for tablet pc at this price..

Dilenma here... I already have a laptop but it's ibook, a macintosh machine.. it's free la, so can't choose the platform... after just 1 semester of use for school purpose in poly.. top concern is compatibility.. even though already installed microsoft office for mac, still encounter problems like changing of formatt.. another concern is the excel sheet is a bit lack and shortchanged of certain features, don;t know exactly which, but can sense it.. It's a good notebook for personal use, but definately not for school, especially when like 90% of ppl are running on window..

Initially thought maybe can just live with these problems.. but after seeing the offer, got attracted.. or at least get a window notebook.. also very very cheap... 4 years of incompatibility and other associated convenience is crazy.. However, if i buy it there go my savings and need to req for some sponsorship from daddy....worse.. i really need some more clothes.. hope my dad is willing to sponsor me $1500, then i fork up another $1000 plus myself.. in this way, i'll have enuff money to buy a few decent clothes and own a fabulous tablet..

Will see first ba, if the tuition fee loan covers year 1 term 1 fee, then can consider.. if not, has to pay $3900+ upfront during matriculation.. I can't expect my dad to fork out $5000 plus cash like that right..Juz sent an email to enquire with finace, hope the reply will be optimistic.. keke..

Seems like I keep changing what i want to buy... but handphone is something i already have, getting a laptop that runs on window seems more practical (thought i own an ibook (mac) too).. anyway the ibook can pass to my brother who is in primary school..
